9' ft Grand Banks Classic 1993

Powerboats for sale, 1993 47ft Grand banks Classic trawler boat. Channel Islands, CA. Used Powerboat saleIntroduction
The Grand Banks 42 Classic is regarded by many as "the perfect" vessel for those choosing to live a cruising lifestyle. The original design by Ken Smith has been amended and updated throughout the years of production (1966 to 2006) with the practical input of her proud owners. The experience gained since laying of the first keel is reflected in each one ever commissioned. One of the most significant modifications to the 42 Classic was when it received a six inch wider and longer hull begining with hull #1204 in late 1991. This GB is hull #1268, built in Singapore and completed in November of 1992 (1993 model year) and benefited from such improvements. The Grand Banks semi displacement hull design, with a fine entry forward, hard chines aft and a full keel, has been proven on the waters around the world. A semi-displacement hull strikes a good balance between a full displacement and planing hull. The keel provides great directionaly stability at all speeds, and when running at hull speed it is as stable and as economical as most full displacement designs. The key advantage to the semi displacement hull design is that when enough power is applied, this hull will achieve more lateral stability.
The Classic is legendary for her incredibly sensible approach to cruising. Everything about her was designed to enhance the cruising experience. From her wide walk around decks to her convenient dinghy storage to her large aft lazarette and wide teak swim platform, the Classic makes cruising safer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Accommodations
One of the most outstanding design features is her spacious aft cabin which is separated from the rest of the boat. This master stateroom offers a level of privacy that is unusual on boats of this size. Complete with a private Sealand Vacuflush head and separated stall shower, the aft cabin offers the convenience and comfort of walk around queen size island bed with a brand new custom Handcrafted Mattress. A custom split level hanging locker that was designed to accomodate full length garments is located centerline at the most forward area of the cabin. Solid teak dovetail drawers and built in teak cabinets provide multiple options for clothing for extended trips, truly a surprising amount of storage on a boat this size.
The forward stateroom is complete with a Sealand Vacuflush head, shower, hanging locker and an abundance of drawers and shelves, making it a comfortable, livable area, stainless steel deep freezer below v-berth. Locating this guest stateroom at the opposite end of the boat from the owners cabin, the Classics' layout offers the ideal solution for privacy when cruising with other adult guests.
Dining entertaining and relaxing couldn't be more enoyable when the crew and guests gather in the Classics main salon. Whether at anchor, in a marina or underway, the main salon offers a wonderful view of the world outside. Two doors, one to port and one starboard, provide easy access to the wide side decks, and the large side windows slide open for plenty of cross ventilation. The L-shaped settee area features a beautifully crafted 54" rectangular shaped hi-low table with built in storage compartments, another Grand Banks signature of quality. Two upholstered teak chairs centerline provide additional seating for meals. The aft port side of the salon is the location of the second Grunert refrigeration/freezer unit and a straight settee.
The adjoining galley is fit for a gourmet chef and includes a Princess electric 3 burner stove/oven & GE microwave. The amount of counter space, dish stowage and shelving that rivals many larger vessels.
The flybridge is where you'll find everyone, including the captain and guests, when the weather is fair. Driving the boat from the upper helm area is a dream, thanks to the excellent visibility and well thought out navigation station. Built in seating, featuring stowage underneath. At anchor the bridge is the perfect height to view other boats and the surrounding scenery, making it the popular gathering place for friends, family and guests. Built in lower helm seat

Engines
The Caterpillar 3116'TA was an excellent engine option over the standard 135hp Ford Sabre/Lehman in 1992/93 The 3116TA is an in-line 6 cylinder configuration, turbo charged & aftercooled, 4 stroke or four-cycle, freshwater cooled diesel engine that produces a maximum 300 horsepower at 2800 rpms. With a bore of 4.13" a stroke of 5" the displacement is 402 cu inches. The compression ratio is 16:1 the dry weight is 1500 lbs per engine.
For those seeking economical performance under 12 knots and the ability to achieve 18 knot max speed the 3116 CAT engine is an optimal design and good choice on this size boat offering a generous engine room for two primary reasons the access or service ability on the outboard side of the engine is much greater with a "tall & skinny" 6 cylinder versus that of the "short & fat" V8 design that was also offered at the time of production. The 6 cylinder weighs 600 lbs less than the V8 is quieter and creates less heat in the engine room. With these key features in addition to excellent Caterpillar service in the Southern California region this is a terrific engine option 2000 rpm 11.12 knots 11.4 gal per hour
2400 rpm 14.64 knots 19.4 gal per hour
2800 rpm 18.17 knots 31.4 gal per hour

Twin Disc transmissions 2.47 ratio
Morse cable transmission & throttle controls
2" Aquamet 22 stainless steel propeller shafts
27 x 27 four bladed bronze propellers

Electrical System
The electrical system found aboard Grand Banks is chosen by the engineering department for performance, quality, reliability, and ease of maintenance. Installation is done by professionals who are intimitely familiar with the operation and service procedures. All the wiring is color coded and numbered at both terminals for easy identification for trouble shooting or when adding additional equipment. A well engineered distribution panel is divided into AC and DC service, with ample circuit breakers for existing and future equipment Xantrex inverter

Grunert Holdover Refrigeration
A "hold over" system is not like your common household refrigerator. The availability of 110 volt power is limited on a boat therefore, the refrigerator is not capable of cycling on and off everytime the door is opened allowing cold air to "maintain" box temperatures over a longer period of time compared to manufactured AC/DC refrigerators. In addition to this refrigeration system the insulation is much much thicker and therefore far more efficient for keeping a desired temperature without a constant power supply. Quite often in a moderate climate the holdover system will only require one hour operation to maintain a desired temperature every 12 hours. Two refrigeration boxes in salon additional freezer beneath V-berth

Safety Features
No compromise has been made in the design and construction of a Grand Banks 42 which incorporates the well thought-out safety features to add to your cruising comfort. These features include dependable hydraulic steering with emergency capability, automatic alarms for engine oil pressure and water temperature. Even a reminder light that shows the engine room lights are on. Circuit breakers protecting all electric circuits, sea cocks on all thru fittings below the waterline, automatic bilge pumps and hand bilge pump located for quick access from the salon. All hoses below the waterline are double clamped for safety. In addition life rails and grab rails are provided all around the cabin and flybridge. Three ply laminated safety glass is used throughout. The engine room is ventilated by electric blowers; the bilge is protected from engine oil by molded fiberglass drip pans; each fuel tank is fitted with shut off valves. All thru hulls, underwater running gear, tanks and deck fills are copper bonded and connected to a single point at the engine frame.
