9' ft Whitby 42 KETCH 1977

WHILE THIS IS A NEW LISTING SPRING 2008 THE PRICE HAS JUST BEEN DROPPED TO $59,900! This Whitby has served the current owner well but for him it is time to move ashore and carry on with his new style of life. The vessel has become more than he wishes to deal with and he will be happy to see her in the hands of a new owner who can do her well. There are a few issues with her that a hands-on-skipper can undertake that is beyond his current capabilities. The engine, tankage and a few other items will need immediate attention. A sensible well thought out agreement of purchase will see this vessel pass into the hands of a capable suitor.

Interior: The main cabin and fore & aft cabins are the laid out in the traditional Whitby 42 with sleeping for six and the main with the extra berth to starboard under the bar! A Paul Luke Soapstone Stove Fireplace with brass trim and tile are just forward of the berth.

The brass Oil Lamp as well as the Weems & Plath Clock & Barometer will remain with the vessel.


The 12 opening ports in the three cabins were replaced in 1999.

There is the full Cabin Sole of Teak & Holley throughout.

The galley has the traditional double sinks & LPG stove with oven and the refrigeration box for both refridge & freezer holding plates. Opposite is the full size Nav Station.

The heads are set up for Holding Tank usage or optionally 'Y' valve offshore direct discharge.

Genoa, 7 oz. 150% 1984
Roller Furling for headsail 1990
Main, 7.25 oz (original) & 2 point jiffy reefing totaling 65% with lazy jacks
Mizzen, 9 oz 1984 with one jiffy reef of 40%
Three other original sails being a 6.5 oz. Working Jib, a Storm Jib and an Anchoring Mizzen.

RIGGING: The Standing and running rigging were replaced in 1998. There are 4 Halyard and 3 self tailing sheet winches of which 6 are 2 speed.

Electronics consist of a Robertson AP11 Autopilot, Magellan hand-held 3000XL GPS and a Horizon VHF Radio.

Safety gear will need some service & or upgrading. There is a Beaufort 4 person Life Raft needing repacking and certification, an ACR Magnum B EPIRB (replaceable) and the factory supplied Emergency Tiller. There is a Bolt Cutter stored on board also. A life-sling, two safety harnesses, 6 life jackets, 3 sets of used foul weather gear, a Davis Sextant, hand-bearing compass and 4 fire extinguishers. A lead-line is also available. There is an electric bilge pump with an auto float switch and a manual hand pump on deck as per USCG requirements.

4-100 AMP deep cycle batteries in two banks.

Balmar 95 amp alternator/regulator

Heart 2000 Inverter w/charger

Full 12VDC service throughout the boat and Navigation light system with a steaming light/deck light combo as well as masthead tri-color.

On Deck, there is a dodge & Ground tackle consisting of 3 anchors, a 35 lb CQR, a 25 lb Danforth for picnic anchoring and a Paul Luke Fisherman's Anchor stored away in a deck locker.

There is more inventory of the standard inventory such as fenders, dock lines, Teak boarding ladder & fenders.

SPECIAL NOTE: This boat will need special attention as noted earlier, and in that consideration the owner will negotiate with a serious buyer to attend to these items at a reasonable but serious price. I am sure that with a combination of energy and know how and a reasonable purchase price, this vessel will represent a good value to a buyer with good boat savvy! I have seen the boat from dockside and the owner has been very forthcoming. I believe it will survey well or the settling price will reflect those circumstances not meeting approval.
